Planet802 Communications was conceived in the Winter of 2001/ 2002 during our quest for broadband in our small village in North Warwickshire. With a solid background in digital communications and a few good connections in the industry, we started testing our first Microwave link in summer of 2002, with the planned rollout to the local village soon following. By late spring of 2003 all our tests were successful and our first village was live with 14 users. Our original business model was to simply supply affordable and reliable equipment to communities building networks. However, with the change in Regulations July of 2003 we could begin offering ISP service to our customers as well, without the heavy burden of a Regulatory licensing fee (at the time it was £40K to register with Offcom as a service provider).
Planet802 now provide service to more than 15 villages, industrial estates, business parks, and communities in the Midlands covering much of the area between Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield, and Lichfield. We also supply equipment and training to many more villages around the country and offer consultation in a variety of areas related to wireless technology. Planet802 also resell licensed wireless services nationally with Base stations in Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Coventry, Bristol, Reading, Nottingham, Sheffield, and Leeds. We employ trained, experienced professionals from within the industry. Our engineers have extensive experience in rolling out wireless services on a national scale using licensed and unlicensed frequency spectrums, as well as having an average of 20 years experience in the telecommunications industry. Our network administrators have 10 years Linux / Unix sysadmin, network admin and design of networks and traffic management. All employees contractors and full time, have extensive training by Planet802 to ensure quality workmanship and best practices are applied to every single job.
We are a fun company, with professional and courteous staff, who pride themselves in doing a quality job. We believe that communications should be affordable, and we do not believe in inflated prices due to lack of ADSL or local infrastructure. We think our personal touch is what sets us apart from the big telecommunications firms, and we hope you agree.
